ABOUT THE
SOUTH MOUNTAIN JOURNAL
South Mountain Journal publishes a visual portrayal of the rich human and natural landscapes that make up the region at this moment in time. A glimpse of the folklife in and around South Mountain (Maryland and Pennsylvania). South Mountain is part of the eastern foothills of the central Appalachian Mountain chain and it is also the northernmost tip of the Blue Ridge Mountains. South Mountain Journal carefully balances the “things to do” and “sights to see” with the people and what they share of themselves an experience—an experience of the Genius loci (the particular spirit of this place); that is a lived experience and also a conversation between South Mountain and you, the reader. Our curiosities explore this place as a place to live, work, visit, and play.
Perhaps this project becomes a documentary overtime. In any event it illustrates the work, connection, and interrelatedness that makes our place A place. As it slowly and organically illustrates living examples of community resilience, heritage, and regeneration.
ABOUT THE SOUTH MOUNTAIN REGION:
There are nine National Parks in the South Mountain area providing an opportunity to blend historical information, contemporary research, with a local perspective to enable tourists and residents to facilitate more in-depth connections while living in and visiting to the region.
